The New England Patriots were unable to overcome an early deficit after getting off to a slow start against their scheduled bye week on Sunday. Patriots quarterback Mac Jones was seen being berated by offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien following an offensive sequence that ended with Jones throwing an interception, despite the complete absence of any opposing players on the field.
The injury-plagued defensive unit eventually found its footing in the second half after allowing 17 points to an otherwise empty field in the first quarter. Controversy surrounded the end of the game when Bill Belichick angrily left the field without shaking hands with the bye week’s non-existent head coach. The Patriots open as heavy favorites in next week’s contest against the hapless New York Giants.
